Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

redenvelopes-1

We will be very busy celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend and for the next week ahead.   This is one of the few holidays that I got very excited when I was a kid.  I would receive red envelopes (lai see) with money inside for good luck from relatives and any married people that stopped by the house to pay respects.  I also got to wear new clothes, which by far the most exciting thing ever!!!

Although we are somewhat and still adapting to the western culture we still celebrate certain Chinese traditions that are deemed important in our culture.  Celebrating Chinese New Year is one of them.  This year, the celebrations will start on January 31st and will most likely end on January 15th or sooner for our family.  Food is a big part of Chinese New Year celebrations so each year we all get together at my parents house for food specifically cooked for this occasion.  I know at least my tummy will be very very busy for the next 10 days or so…
