First of all, I’m honored to have the opportunity to be a guest blogger for Janise. I will never forget the kindness she showed me when I first started blogging. I’m grateful to her for that!
You are very welcome, Audrey…great to have you 🙂

It’s amazing how trends change like the wind! It can be difficult to keep up with what’s in and what’s out. Who has the time or money? Well, my favorite cost-effective way to “roll with the trends” is to accessorize. For example, plaid is huge right now but for how long? Instead of investing in several plaid pieces, add a colorful, plaid scarf. You can wear it to work, with a fall jacket, a t-shirt or anything else in your wardrobe. I’m also a big fan of leopard print and have had my eye on some beautiful leopard print heels. However,  I just can’t justify the expense. Instead, I found a beautiful leopard print scarf for $17.00 and wear it all the time to quench my leopard print thirst. Hats are another way to give any outfit a boost. A jaunty fedora hat sitting a little off balance on top of your head can jazz up an outfit in no time. Boot socks are another one of those cost-effective trendy accessories. If you have a dress collecting dust in your closet, grab a pair of boot socks, your favorite boots and see if you can revive that dress. Finally, the statement and pendant necklaces. The statement necklace creates that “wow” factor and can be the centerpiece of an entire outfit. The pendant necklace creates more of a casual flair! Take a look at some of my favorites! Enjoy!

1 -Boot socks

Boot socks not only extend the length of your boot, but they can add color and a different texture. For example, I like to wear black sweaters with black leggings but sometimes it gets a little monotonous.  If you add a cream or green colored boot sock , it breaks up the black and adds just the right amount of color without overshadowing the beauty of wearing all black. Don’t forget about boot socks for your booties either. Check out a pair of my favorite lace style boot socks just peeking over the tops of these black booties . Another option is knee high boot socks, which are popular right now too, these look fabulous with dresses and skirts. However, in the fall and winter I grab boot socks most frequently to wear with my leggings and skinny jeans.

2- Scarf /Hat

Adding the ever popular leopard print scarf and a felt hat completely changes the look of this basic cream sweater. It’s amazing! We all have those days when spending the additional 15-20 minutes washing and drying our hair is out of the question. A pony tail seems too basic somedays too. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thrown a quick side braid in my hair, grabbed my fedora and walked out the door. People will compliment and say, “love your look.” Those are the best days, because they don’t require much time!

3- Statement/Pendant Necklacesaudrey statement necklaces

The statement necklace does exactly what is says,”creates a statement.” I love wearing these as an alternative to scarves and the best part is, you can wear them with anything from a simple t-shirt to formal attire! Finally the pendant necklace. One of my favorites is the tassel pendant. Tassel pendants are trendy right now and I throw this pendant on with everything from dresses and track pants to distressed denim. My advise is to keep a few of these in your jewelry box for when you need quick, instant style.

Again, it’s been an honor to share with you some of my favorite cost-effective ways to accessorize. I’m a firm believer that creating great style doesn’t have to break the bank. I love fashion, but have an extremely realistic approach to it. My wardrobe is more on the street style side as opposed to dresses and stilettos. Don’t get me wrong, I love those things too, I just don’t invest heavily into those items because they aren’t real practical for me at this stage in my life. Maybe someday! Thanks for stopping by!
