Museum-3

Every family outing doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. One of the most affordable outings that we enjoy as a family is visiting museums. Most museums offer free admission on certain days of the month.  Both G and I enjoy going to the museums. As a parent to four-year-old twin boys, we believe that early exposure to museums fosters curiosity in our kids.  Our first visit to a museum was when they were only 3 months old, and over the past few years we have visited natural history museums, traditional history museums, botanical gardens, space museums, and of course children’s museums multiple times.

There’s no shortage of research indicating the benefits of visiting museums, especially for children. Museums offer a dynamic opportunity to expose children to learn, develop, and explore new things. They also open the children’s eyes to different ideas and perspectives that are relevant to their lives. This unique exposure helps them develop critical and creative thinking skills, and connection to the world around them, which are integral to future success. Our children are our future and museums can definitely broaden their knowledge of the world.

Each time we visit a museum we find ourselves learning new things. Of all the museums we have visited, our twins love the natural history museum the most. On our most recent visit, they got to be up close and personal with sharks, snakes, dinosaur bones, and other species again.

We feel that visiting museums together is a shared learning experience in which we grow together.  What better ways to spend valuable time than at a museum where it is affordable and educational for all of us.  You don’t need to spend big to learn big.
