It’s official.  I’m now a “Soccer Mom!”  Yep, I have a permanent basket in my trunk that stores their bats, helmets, gloves, water bottles, and more.  No, I don’t drive a mini-van and don’t see myself doing that for years to come.  Don’t get me wrong, mini-vans intimidate me so I just stick with a small SUV that has enough room for the four of us comfortably.

I knew this was coming but didn’t know it came so fast.  I thought about it when I first found out about my pregnancy but it didn’t really hit me until I schlep them to their first practice late last week.

My first experience was quite unexpected…okay, maybe because they are only in the T-Ball category!?  It turned out not so bad after all, and let me tell you how I’m embracing this reality…

Having Fun

Hubby and I constantly encourage our twins to have fun at whatever sport it is they participate.  It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about having fun while doing it.  At the same time, they are learning the importance of teamwork, trust, responsibility, hard work, and so much more.   Our motto is if they are passionate about it then nurture it.  Otherwise, move on to the next thing so we all won’t be miserable.

Good Night Sleep

We don’t have issues with the twins going to bed early during the week.  Mainly because they are probably exhausted from their school during the day.  Also, our expectations are very clear – in bed by 8:30 pm the latest so they don’t get tired the next day.  But we are quite lenient on the weekends.  They get to play to unwind but sometimes that do not tire them out ’till 11pm.  Having them running around for an hour that day really gave them a good night sleep that night.  Something to look forward to on the weekends.

Exercise

Obviously, an hour of running around in the fresh air is great for their health.  They are exercising while having fun.  And the best part?  They want to eat immediately after.  Which leads to…

Eating Habits

We don’t have to nudge them to eat, they just gobble up the healthy snack and dinner immediately after.

Me Time

Baseball practice is not a daycare, nor do I expect it to be one.  However, being able to have a quiet mental moment to myself without the mom this and mom that is priceless.

Sure, I may experience the true “Soccer Mom” in a year or so, but have you ever watched 5-year-old boys play baseball?  For an hour?  Lots of laughter from their parents!  That, my friend, is priceless.
