As you read this we are settling back at my mother-in-law’s house after surviving the icy storm that slammed Toronto, Canada into power outage yesterday.  We arrived late on Saturday night and then the power outage happened the next day.  My mother-in-law’s house was one of the 300,000 people that got impacted by this catastrophic weather.  I’ve never felt so vulnerable…no heater, no internet, and no lights.  On top of that, I got 2 screaming kids wanting to go back home.  It was tough but luckily we were able to stay at my sister-in-law’s house for the night.  Coincidentally, she had already invited some family members for a get together for that day and they all came to spend time with us:)  It was not so bad after all.  It turned out to be the best get together!!!  I will update you all on upcoming posts later regarding our visit.

This post was meant to go live yesterday but it did not go as planned due to the unavailability of the internet.  I’ve been meaning to share Fashion Project with you for a while when I first stumbled upon it. Fashion Project is the first designer shopping experience featuring exclusive apparel, shoes and accessories that are generously donated by style icons, celebrities and philanthropists from around the world. A majority of all Fashion Project sales are donated to the charity of the donor’s choice, creating a new way to deliver value to their favorite cause.  For every item you purchase at Fashion Project, a majority of the net proceeds go directly back to do something amazing in the world.  If you don’t want to purchase any item and simply want to donate, that’s even better.  By selling your items to their exclusive, online boutique, they maximize the dollar value of your donations – so that you can make an even greater impact on the causes you care about most.

Take this Prada dress for an instance.  It was originally retail for $1100 but because it was donated to Fashion Project they were able to sell it at 90% off retail and that part of the proceeds would benefit Girls Inc.  Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic, and social barriers.  I also picked up a $98 (also 90% off retail) Miu Miu handbag that benefited Autism Speaks.  I will feature this bag on an upcoming post. It feels good knowing that my purchase helped Autism Speaks to fund research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism.

My high end discount online shopping go to site is now Fashion Project.  They sell high end designer items at an extremely low and affordable price.  At the same time, most of the proceed is going to a good cause.  My shopping experience with them has been nothing but positive.  Their items always arrive in style with a prepaid donation bag should you want to donate.  I am thrilled that Fashion Project is generously giving 20% off in purchase to Mama in Heels readers by clicking this link here with code MAMAINHEELS20, and the code will be active until January 31st.

  2. Thanks for the great tip on the Fashion Project–what an excellent idea! I did want to alert you though, that clicking through on the link you provided does not result in a $20 credit. I was fine with making a purchase without it, but you may want to double check it so that it works for future shoppers.

So sorry you had power troubles in the cold! I identify, but at least we were snug-ish at home. After a couple of days, I get how the kids felt!
Enjoy an improved holiday, Janise. Have a lovely New Year!
