Hello everyone!

I’m so excited to host this week’s Beauty Buzz link up and also hosting a fabulous giveaway.  3 lucky winners will receive The Christine Duo Shampoo and Conditioner from Van Thomas Concepts!  But first I’d like to share my tips on how to get your manicure last at least 2 weeks.

manicures-1

{my manicure at day 10}

There are so many posts and articles out there that will tell you how to prep and apply your nail polish correctly for that staying power.  I won’t regurgitate what you already know.  If you don’t then you can read articles like this and/or this for tips and how-tos.  What I want to talk about today is to really how to get your manicure an extra few days wear by following these tips.  And you don’t even have to wear gloves for dishwashing or other hand washing chores.

I actually discovered this during my first gel nails experience a couple months back.  I thought gel nails was the answer to my manicure longevity given my busy lifestyle.  To my horror, my nails started to peel halfway one week after.  I couldn’t remove them with acetone or other nail polish removers easily.  I had to cut and buff my nails and then re-apply a topcoat to freshen up the look before my next nail appointment.  That’s when it occurred to me that I could do the same for my manicure.  I’ve been following these tips religiously for the past few weeks and they really worked!

  1. Three days into your manicure, apply a layer of quick-dry topcoat to form a protective shield.  Two days after that apply another layer of quick-dry topcoat to freshen them up.  This also increases shine on your nails.
  2. Seven days into your manicure, cut and gently buff out scratches and nicks.  Then apply a thin coat of the same nail cover over the entire nail.   Let the polish dry out before finishing off with a topcoat.
  3. Repeat step 2 and voila, you just extended your manicure’s lifespan and put gel nails to shame!
  4. To extend your mani even longer, apply drops of silver or gold metallic polish (they complement any color) to the various bare areas of your nails instead of removing your polish completely.  Hey, you can only apply so much polish before the chips take over and your nails start to look worn-out and dull.

I usually stop at step 4 because I like wearing my nails very short.  I’d love to hear what other tips you have to make your mani last longer.

Now onto the fabulous giveaway and link up!

    My nail polish always chips by day 2 or 3 and I am definitely a fan of touching up with a fresh top coat, but the gold/silver trick is a new one to me, I’ll have to try it out. Thank you so much for linking to #AllAboutYou x

  3. This is just brilliant! What with dealing with babies and children I’m constantly having to wash my hands which isn’t great for manicures. I especially love step 4 🙂

  4. I agree with Abby- I want to know what color you have on in the picture! I never have much luck extending my manicures, even gel polish only lasts 4 days on me. I don’t know what my problem is. But I’ve just gotten used to it and accepted it. -Gina

  5. Hi, great article! I read on another blog where they extended the life of gel nail polish by adding gold glitter to the grown out portion. I like your idea of re-applying top coats every few days…I would do anything to extend a manincure to 2 weeks and I also find that gels weaken my nails. Thx for great article!

  6. Since I blog about my outfits, it’s always nice to stumble across some beauty tips! Thanks for this! I’m actually due for a mani now, so I’ll have to keep these in mind!
