Happy  Friday everyone!

Have you heard of Schoola?  If you have kids you may want to take note to this wonderful site.  They are currently running a campaign of “20 Days of School” Adopt-a-School program that will focus on “adopting” one of the two schools who would greatly benefit from additional funds to bring or bolster creative programs.  KIPP Academy is one of these schools, and their goal is to raise $25,000 to fund their music program.

KIPP Academy

A small school in the Bronx, KIPP Academy works hard to support kids who need all the help they can get. Ninety-five percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. More than one in seven receives special education services. Music helps KIPP Academy reach and engage every child who enters its doors. The slogan on the Music Room wall sets the stage—All of Us Will Learn Music.  No matter what backgrounds they come from or what challenges they face, they learn lessons together that will serve them the rest of their lives.  You can learn more about KIPP Academy by watching the video below:

Schoola sells gently used children’s clothing at amazing prices and schools receive proceeds from every item they sell.  This money funds all those wonderful creative programs like Arts and Music that are critical to the success of our kids.  Or, you can order a bag from them and then fill it with clothes you no longer need/want.   Send it back and they will donate money to a creative program school of your choice.

Like most parents we want our kids to have a balanced education academically and creatively.   Academic achievements are important because of the impact it will have on their future.  But for an individual to succeed in college and careers one must go beyond academics.  Creativity is just as important because it can have an enormous impact on self-esteem and an overall achievement.  Creativity is possible in all areas of human activity, and all young people and adults have creative capacities that includes the arts, sciences, at work at play and in all other areas of daily life.  With that said, I whole heartedly support any Arts and Music programs that a school can offer.  Unfortunately these programs typically do not get much attention from Uncle Sam so they usually don’t get much funding.

Here’s how you can help the Adopt-a-School program and help these kids out.  CLICK HERE and begin shopping or donating.  The way it works is that for every person who requests a Schoola donation bag and  for every purchase made at Schoola, they will donate $1 to KIPP Academy.  PLUS, if you donate clothes and fill out your school information, $2 of every $5 made will go back to the school you chose to support.  It’s  a win/win for KIPP Academy and for your school!
