Forget the CRT and rear projection television sets. Today, when shopping for a new TV, there are three main options that can be found in stores; LCD TVs, Plasma TVs, and LED TVs. The big question is, which is the better option in terms of picture quality and affordability?

While LCD and Plasma televisions are generally very good, it’s LED TVs that tend to stand out amongst the competition. Discounted LED TV deals are perfect for individuals who are looking to enhance their television viewing experience as they offer a number of advantages that their counterparts cannot.

Picture Quality

LED TVs utilise LED (light emitting diode) bulbs to illuminate the screen, while LCD TVs use CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) bulbs, and Plasmas use gas pixels. There are drawbacks to CCFL and the technology used by Plasma, although LED can rarely be faulted. CCFL bulbs create an image that’s not quite as sharp, while the pixels in Plasma TVs can burn out.

LEDs use what’s known as ‘local dimming’, which means that each are of the screen is controlled separately, creating a sharp image and vibrant colours. In fact, the picture quality of LED TVs is considered to be so good that the BBC have reported that Samsung will cease to produce other TV styles, claiming that LED TVs are now ‘more popular’.

An Environmentally Friendly TV?

If LED TVs are so good, they must be expensive, right? Wrong. There are many LED TV deals available and buying an LED TV can even save homeowners money. LED TVs require very little power to operate due to the use of light emitting diodes, and can significantly lower the amount of energy used up when watching TV. LED TVs are, perhaps, the closest thing possible to a ‘green’ television.

Although newer technologies are starting to be introduced in shops, the future of these remains unknown. LED TVs are tried and tested, and are widely considered to be the best type of TV currently available. There is, perhaps, no better blend of quality and affordability anywhere else on the market.
