Happy Monday everyone!  Hope your weekend was treating you well.  I had a fantastic girls day out with my beautiful friends & sister.  It was a day full of shopping, brunch, shopping, cupcakes & coffee, then running from the rain.  It was hysterical and way too much fun!!!

This week I’d like to share one of my favorite styling past time; mixing high and low end fashion.  I’m a no stranger to mixing high end and low end items for most of my outfits, if not all.  We all have our rules and those rules are dictated by our own personal style. For me, the trick is taking a fashion trend and blend them with my own style in a way that doesn’t look like Forever21 exploded on me and most importantly, not breaking the bank. I love mixing trendy pieces from Forever21, H&M or Topshop with higher end items like premium denim, high-end bags and shoes. I’m also not shy of pre-owned and vintage items because they add interest to any look. I want to look thoughtful but effortless at the same time.

I always keep these tips in mind whenever I do high end and low end mixing.
1. Treasure Hunt
One woman’s junk is another woman’s treasure. That’s why I love trolling sites and places like eBay, flea markets, thrift shops and vintage stores.  As a matter of fact, I recently found a preowned Prada satchel for 95% off MSRP and it was because it had some dirt on it. Baby wipes did the trick and now it looks almost new.

2. Look Expensive
Remember, the quality of fabrics, prints, trim, stitching, finishings, cut, silhoutte, etc all play a major role in an outfit. They are much more important than the label or price.

4. Accessories are a girl’s best friend
Elevate your outfit with accessories. Splurge on one great bag and one great pair of shoes every season.  For me, that’s once a year…it’s quite expensive so I’m very picky when it comes to investing in a high priced item!

5. Dump the Lows, keep the Highs
Handbags, shoes, and coat should be your big-ticket items. If you splurge wisely you can elevate the whole look.  Invest in classic items like cashmere sweaters or leather boots during spring and summer when the prices are typically marked down.  Remember, pick a color that is neutral for you and make sure the cut is flattering.

Oh, when it comes to low end clothing items, you don’t have to stick with their design. I have a tendency to remove sewn in cheap looking jewelry, removing buttons and replace with some unique/vintage ones, or get rid of the attached belt altogether.  The look I’m wearing on this post did not require any tailoring or button removal.  I fell in love with the style, material (cotton & polymade but felt like embroidered silk), cut, and fit.  But as always, the determining factor was the price ($25 for the top & $39 for the skirt!).

If you also like to mix high and low end fashion, it is important to invest in clothing and accessories that are long-lasting but most importantly, you feel excited about them.  Another important thing to remember is try not to wear the ad-campaign look or the already worn by stars and top bloggers.  You want to look modern, not overphotographed or overdistributed.  I hope these tips will help you look like a million bucks without spending a million bucks.

  1. Loving this look. You are so right about your tips on high low dressing. I tend to try to stick to natural fabrics when I shop at low end stores. Makes the pieces I find look more high end!

  2. I agree wholeheartedly with these tips– I am definitely a high fashion mixologist as well! Your high/low look is fabulous 🙂
